    Educational Qualification

    Bachelor's degree in any discipline.

    Candidates have to take the SSC CGL exam in four stages, Tier-I, Tier-III & Tier-IV, Tier-I, Tier-III & Tier-IV. Ideally, the first two tier exams take place online, while Tier-III will be a pen and paper-based exam. The final Tier is a computer skill test.

    SSC CGL 2022 Tier-1 exam will be conducted online comprising 4 sections with 100 multiple choice questions in total and with maximum marks of 200. The entire exam is needed to be completed in a time span of 60 minutes. SSC CGL Tier 1 Exam will be of qualifying nature and marks will not be counted in the final selection.

    SSC CGL 2023 exam pattern - Tier 2.

     

    Points to note:

     

    • Tier-II will include conducting of Paper-I, Paper-II and Paper-III in separate shifts, days.
    • Paper-I is compulsory for all the posts.
    • Paper-II will be for only those candidates who apply for the posts of Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) in the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation and who are shortlisted in Tier-I for these Posts.
    • Paper-III will be for only those candidates who are shortlisted in Tier-I for Paper-III i.e., for the posts of Assistant Audit Officer/ Assistant Accounts Officer.
    • Tier-II (Paper-I, Paper-II and Paper-III) will consist of Objective Type, Multiple choice questions, except for Module-II of Section-III of Paper-I. The questions will be set both in English & Hindi except for English Language and Comprehension module in Section-II of Paper-I.
    • There will be negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer in Section-I, Section-II and Module-I of Section-III of Paper-I and of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer in Paper-II and Paper-III.

    SSC CGL Tier-II is a descriptive test. Candidates have to give a pen and paper exam in the respective examination hall. The details on the same are published on the official website.

    Ideally, the candidates have the flexibility to answer the papers in Hindi and English. The total mark of the Tier-III exam is 100. Candidates have to answer the whole paper within a span of 60 minutes.

    According to the SSC CGL tier 4 exam pattern, it has two parts for different posts. Let's describe in details below.

    (1) DEST (Data Entry Speed Test)

    • Data Entry Speed Test (DEST) at 8,000 (eight thousand) Key Depression (type) per hour on Computer.
    • The “Data Entry Speed” Skill Test at 2000 (two thousand) key depressions (type) for a duration of 15 (fifteen) minutes will be of qualifying nature.
    • DEST only for those candidates who apply for the post of Tax Assistants (Central Excise & Income Tax).
    • Only those candidates who secure at least the minimum qualifying marks in the written examination as may be fixed by the Commission at its discretion will be eligible to appear in the SKILL TEST.

    (2) CPT (Computer Proficiency Test)

    • The Commission will hold Computer Proficiency Test (CPT), comprising of three modules are Word Processing, Spread Sheet and Generation of Slides.
    • CPT Only for those candidates who apply for the post of Assistant Section Officer of CSS Assistant Section Officer (MEA) and Assistant in Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) under M/o corporate affairs, Assistant (GSI) in M/O Mines.
    • OH, candidates opting for the post of Tax Assistant in CBDT are exempted from appearing in skill test.
    • OH, candidates opting for the post of Tax Assistant in CBEC are not exempted from skill test.
    • HH and VH candidates are not eligible for exemption from the skill test.
    • Detailed instructions regarding the Skill Test will be sent by the Regional /Sub Regional Offices of the Commission to eligible candidates declared qualified for appearing in Skill Test.
    • VH candidates may be allowed appropriate compensatory time in DEST at par with typing test. Only those VH candidates who opt for scribes in the written examination will be provided passage reader at the time of skill test.

      • Income Tax Inspector.
      • Assistant Section Officer.
      • Central Excise Inspector.
      • Assistant Audit Officer.
      • Assistant Enforcement Officer.

    Yes, a candidate can apply for more than just one post for the SSC CGL exam as long as the candidate fulfils the eligibility criteria.

    For general category applicants, the SSC CGL age limit is generally 18 to 27 years, which makes the number of attempts for SSC CGL for general category candidates to be around 9 attempts. As SSC CGL is conducted once a year.
